Welcome to Cruising — Your First Voyage Awaits!

If this is your first cruise, welcome! You’re about to experience a style of travel that so many of us fall in love with after just one sailing. Cruising is unique because it combines transportation, accommodations, dining, entertainment, and destinations all into one seamless experience. We think of it as a floating hotel.

It’s normal to feel a little unsure before your first cruise. There’s a lot to take in—ship layouts, daily planners, dining options, ports, and onboard activities—but that’s part of the fun. One of the best things about cruising is that you can do as much or as little as you want. Whether you’re relaxing by the pool, enjoying live shows, exploring ports, or simply watching the ocean go by, the experience is truly what you make it.

Don’t worry about knowing everything before you board. Cruise staff are incredibly helpful, signage is clear, and the daily planner will guide you through each day. Other cruisers can be incredibly helpful and an opportunity to make new friends. You’ll quickly find your rhythm—often by the first full day at sea.

Most importantly, give yourself permission to enjoy the journey. Take photos, try something new (food is always a good option), ask questions, and soak it all in. Many first-time cruisers finish their trip already planning the next one.

Much of what we share comes from our personal experiences sailing with Royal Caribbean, a cruise line we are loyal to and know well. Our tips, insights, and recommendations are shaped by sailing on Royal Caribbean ships across multiple itineraries and ship classes.

While many cruising basics apply across all cruise lines, keep in mind that specific details—like dining options, entertainment styles, ship layouts, and onboard policies—can vary by line. When we speak from experience, it’s usually through the lens of Royal Caribbean, simply because that’s where we’ve spent the most time and built the most familiarity.

That said, our goal is always to provide honest, helpful guidance that first-time cruisers can use, regardless of which cruise line they choose.
